Project UNITE (Undoing Harm & Integrating Services) is a randomized controlled trial evaluating an integrated intervention that aims to increase engagement with safety optimization services among people who use drugs (PWUD) in communities with high overdose rates. Project UNITE is conducted in partnership with St. Ann’s Corner of Harm Reduction (SACHR) in New York City and the Sex Workers and Allies Network (SWAN) in New Haven, two organizations with longstanding trust and credibility in their respective communities. The study will recruit 200 participants (100 in the Bronx, NY, and 100 in New Haven, CT) who report recent opioid misuse. Participants will be randomized to either the Integrated Intervention or the SAU condition, with total participation lasting one year and eight weeks, including an 8-week intervention phase and follow-up assessments at 3, 6, and 12 months.
