The Beatrice W. Welters Breast Health Outreach and Navigation Program educates women about breast cancer and the importance of screening. Patient navigators identify women through outreach and educational programs in community venues, such as churches, mosques, and beauty salons, and help to secure breast health services such as mammograms. Support includes reminders about appointments, rides to and from the appointments, assistance with record keeping, and communication help with doctors and other staff. The navigators provide assistance to patients from screening to treatment, and into survivorship. The program also provides opportunities to promising new therapies through clinical trials.
